Our Story
Five decades of sailmaking excellence
Craig Phillips began his sailmaking career at North Sails in 1984 at just 15 years of age. Over the next three decades, he travelled the globe working on high-performance sailing projects at the highest levels of the sport. His expertise took him through eight America’s Cup campaigns, including his first in Fremantle in 1987 and memorable wins with Oracle Team USA in 2010 and 2013 as Sail Coordinator.
In 2013, Craig returned home to Lake Macquarie to take over Phillips Sails from his father Bryan, who founded the business in 1968. Today, Craig brings that same world-class expertise to every project – whether it’s a custom racing sail or a new cruising sail. He still enjoys the hands-on approach, designing and crafting sails for local sailors.
Phillips Sails continues the tradition of in-house manufacturing that Bryan established over 50 years ago, combining proven craftsmanship with the technical knowledge Craig gained at the forefront of sailmaking technology.
